The Russia facility operates as a cold-storage node within a distributed archival system designed for infrequent-access data: compliance records, media masters, backup snapshots, and reference material that must be retained but rarely retrieved.

Unlike hot or warm storage tiers, this facility is optimized for write-once, read-rarely workloads. Objects are chunked, checksummed, and written across independent disk arrays before being marked as durable. A background scrubbing process re-verifies checksums on a rolling schedule to detect bit rot before it becomes unrecoverable.

Retrieval requests are queued rather than served instantly, which allows the underlying disks to stay spun down most of the time โ€” the trade-off that keeps long-term storage costs low without compromising durability guarantees.

Access to this facility is restricted to authenticated service accounts operating under the ShadowLink Archive internal API. All read and write operations are logged at the object level, and administrative actions require a second approval before taking effect. Physical access to the underlying infrastructure is managed by the facility's hosting provider under a standard data-processing agreement.

Objects written to this facility follow a write-once retention model: once committed, data is immutable for the duration of its configured retention window. Deletion requests outside the retention window are processed as tombstones and purged during the next scheduled compaction pass rather than immediately, which limits the impact of accidental or malicious delete operations.
